Using the Advanced Keyword search option

Normally, the keyword search matches any of the search terms entered.

For advanced users, phrases and boolean operators may be specified.

To use the advanced search, you must follow the following rules:

  1. All words and phrases must be enclosed in double quotation marks.
  2. Either the AND operator or the OR operator must appear between words and phrases.
  3. The operator NOT comes before a word or phrase.  NOT signifies that the content cannot include the given word or phrase.
  4. Some words are ignored and cannot be used as a word or phrase.  This is a list of them: Ignored word list
  5. You may use parentheses to group parts of the expression.

Examples of correct search patterns:

1. "beautiful disaster"

2. "beautiful" AND NOT "disaster"

3. "beautiful disaster" OR "BD"

4. "Vegas" AND "tickets" AND NOT "ebay"

5. ("Vegas" OR "Houston") AND "tickets"

These examples are incorrect:

1. "beautiful"  "disaster"  - AND or OR do not appear between the words.

2. "beautiful" NOT "disaster"  - Again, AND or OR do not appear between the words.

3. "beautiful" AND OR "disaster" - Either AND or OR, not both!

Remember, you must check the Advanced box in order to get this option.
